Embercrown Tactics
Embercrown Tactics is the kind of turn-based strategy that respects your brain. You command a small band defending a series of mountain passes, and terrain matters as much as your units — high ground, chokepoints, and weather all shift the math each battle. There's no autobattle crutch, which I appreciated.
What kept me coming back was how each unit levels into something personal. My scout became a ridge-hopping menace; a friend of mine turned the same class into a support specialist. The campaign is long but broken into short, self-contained skirmishes that fit a bus ride.
It asks patience, and the tutorial could ease you in more gently. But once you understand the flanking rules, every fight becomes a satisfying little puzzle with real stakes.
What we liked
- Terrain-driven tactical depth
- Units that grow to fit your style
- Bite-sized battles for short sessions
