Do Turn-Based Tactics Actually Work on a Phone?
Tactics games are all about reading a whole board at once, so squeezing one onto a phone screen sounds like a bad idea on paper. I went in skeptical and came out mostly convinced.
The trick, it turns out, is keeping battle maps small and readable. When designers pack too much onto the grid, you spend more time pinching and scrolling than thinking. The games that nail it use tight, focused arenas where every tile is visible.
Short battle length matters too. On a phone you're often playing in five-minute windows, and a skirmish that respects that beats a sprawling hour-long siege every time. Save-anywhere is non-negotiable.
So yes, tactics work on mobile — but only when the developer designs for the format instead of shrinking a desktop game. When they do, it's honestly a perfect commute companion.
