How I Actually Find Games Worth Playing

June 13, 2026 · Marta Nowak

People ask how we find the games we cover, and the honest answer is there's no clever system. Mostly it's word of mouth, developer forums, and a lot of scrolling through new releases hoping something catches the eye.

A screenshot rarely tells you much anymore, so the first filter is a short trailer or a gameplay clip. If the movement looks fluid and the idea sounds fresh, it goes on the try-list. That list is embarrassingly long.

Then comes the actual playing, which is the only filter that matters. Plenty of games look great and fall apart after an hour. We give each one enough time to show whether it has staying power before deciding whether to write about it.

The result is slower than an automated site, but it means everything here got a real chance. If you've got a game we should try, our inbox is open — some of our favorites came from reader tips.
